Acton Travel Guide
Welcome to Acton, ON!
Formerly known as Danville and Adamsville, Acton received its official name in 1846 from its postmaster who named the area after Acton in West London, England. In 1874, it was officially incorporated as a village. Acton is located in the Grand River Country region of Ontario, just west of Halton Hills. During the 19th and early 20th Century, Acton was home to an extensive tanning industry and was nicknamed Leathertown. Acton was a desirable location for the tanning industry due to the huge tree population in the area. Today, Acton is still home to large leather goods retailers such as Olde Hide House and Beardmore Leathers. Other local shopping options are also available, everything from cute little gift shops to furniture stores. Acton hosts several annual events including the Leathertown Festival. This popular summer event features an array of vendors, exhibitors, food and entertainment for the whole family. For those who prefer the outdoors, Fairy Lake is a man-made lake located in Acton offering a boat launch and fishing opportunities.Hotels & Motels
